My wife and I took a National Parks tour a few years ago. While we were visiting the Tetons, we took part in a raft float on the Snake River. This is a little composition I made from one of the views we experienced. The name comes from the dark “butte” in the background. A butte is an isolated, small hill that has steep sides and a flattened top. Blacktail Butte is named for the native Blacktail deer in the area. Its color is derived from the heavily wooded slopes that make it appear almost black.
