3's Company ...
- Description
I have recently been exploring wildlife subjects. In this composition, I depict three deer that are meeting somewhere in the woods when they are suddenly startled by the approach of an uninvited visitor. I have attempted to personify their gathering as gossips that have been interrupted by the subject of their gossip. The deer on the left and right seem startled, while the middle doe delivers a glaring, hostile "who invited you" stare. The title plays off the old expression "three's company, four's a crowd.” The modernist approach allows me to develop the space in the composition in new and interesting ways.
