Among The Trees
- Description
This composition allowed me to work with a wildlife subject of two deer walking in the woods in the shadows of the trees. I was also exploring multiple perspectives. The deer appear to be walking toward the viewer, but the viewer also seems to be above eye level looking down. The viewer is directly above the foreground trees looking straight down, while the deer appear at eye level. Visually exploring these impossibilities is really fun for the artist and the viewer. As I was painting, I was dissatisfied with how I was depicting the ground. After several layers of paint, I somehow figured out the abstract patterning to represent the fallen leaves and carried it over to the trees and figures to unify the composition.
