I have always loved illustrators. I think it was because I loved the narratives their images tried to convey. I remember in my younger days checking out books from the library and pouring over them for hours and hours. The great narrative artists like N.C. Wyeth, Frank Schoonover, Charlie Russell, and Thomas Hart Benton were some of my favorites. This painting is in that genre. A cowboy is riding on the trail when he is suddenly, out of nowhere, attacked by a grizzly bear. The rider falls but was able to grab his rifle on his way down. What happens next?
