Description

This is my second composition featuring the Homestead Pickers, a Silver Dollar City institution. In this composition I wanted to focus on them playing their instruments. Those familiar with them (they have their legions of fans) will be able to identify who is who even though the faces are not depicted. This composition recalls the old Dukes of Hazzard TV program. Waylon Jennings is the Singer in the opening credits and the narrator during the show. In the opening theme, the cameraman has zoomed in on Waylon playing his guitar as he humorously sings how his mamma “don’t understand why they keep showing my hands and not my face on TV.” The abrupt breakup of forms and space by changes in color and value helps to visualize the expressive sounds of the Homestead Pickers.
